‘Ojo’, an established eco-lodge retreat with bamboo, hardwood and palm thatched jungle cabinas, is situated on the ‘Carbonera’ beach near the small village of ‘Matapalo’, 30 minutes from ‘Puerto Jimenez’. It is nestled amongst primary rainforest inside the ‘Golfo Dulce’ (the Sweet Gulf) and the gateway to the Pacific Ocean.
The cabinas, that are scattered around the property, amongst the lush vegetation, sleep two to four people with mostly en-suite bathrooms or with nearby shared facilities and all have a comfortable living space.
There is a spacious ‘Casa Grande’ with dining room and open kitchen where you can relax in a hammock to read a book and watch the next delicious meal be prepared.
The beach front yoga deck is an open air structure surrounded by lush, green jungle and a palm tree canopy. Additional facilities include blocks, mats, straps and an inversion swing. There is a jungle spa on the property that offers bodywork and acupuncture services, as well as facials, scrubs and wraps.
The beach right out front of the lodge is extremely beautiful, lined with coconut trees and breathtaking views of the ‘Golfo Dulce’ and even across to Panama on a clear day. The surf school is only a 10 minute walk down the beach, where beginners can take lessons on the more forgiving waves, and boards can also be rented. Fifteen minutes in the opposite direction and the more experienced surfers can find more challenging breaks such as Pan Dulce, Backwash and Matapalo.
